When I founded AssistU in 1997, and formalized this wonderful Virtual Assistance profession, a super experienced businessman asked, "What's your exit strategy?"

I looked at him, gave him a good stink eye, and replied (as only a brand-spanking-new business owner could), "My EXIT strategy? I've not even really begun!"

He went on to tell me how important it was going to be for me to know, much sooner than later, what my exit strategy would be because, really, I would only want to be involved with AssistU and the Virtual Assistance profession for a max of five years. Then I'd want to get out and go on to whatever was to be next for me.

Fast forward to today-nearly a full 13 years later--and you know what? I still don't have an exit strategy. This profession remains vibrant, and there are so many wonderful things left to do, and terrific people to work with to accomplish them all. I am, today, as excited by it as I was all those years ago.

Recently, though, my focus has expanded a bit. It used to be that I was tightly focused on training the best Virtual Assistants (VAs) in the world. And in truth, I don't envision losing that as a large part of my work. But what I've moved more into as well is working with the clients and potential clients of VAs, to help them be far smarter and struggle far less as they think about working virtually. From my experience, I've come to know that they most need deeply-connected partnerships, and they need to be well-educated in their choosing of VAs as right hand people.

What I've found is what I've known all along; clients need a lot of help.

Get More Done, Make More Money And so I was delighted when Marcia Hoeck approached me about this wonderful
ebook idea of hers. I was hoping that her objective eye on the topic would allow her to create something extremely useful for the client population-something strong, and true, and focused on the aspects of working with VAs that clients often don't understand, or overlook in their hurry to move themselves forward.

I hungrily poured over each well-crafted line, pleased to see that she did create an objective and definitive guide for people who want to smartly work with VAs. And not only did she create such a guide, she did it with style and humor. It's almost exactly the guide I would have written if Marcia hadn't beaten me to the punch! Her asking me to write the foreward was just the icing on an otherwise yummy cake for me!

As the Virtual Assistance profession gains ground in becoming mainstream as a way for busy people everywhere to get the high-quality support they need, it becomes even more important for people to have easy access to information that will help them understand Virtual Assistance, then move forward with purpose, rather than flying by the seats of their pants. And as Virtual Assistants become more capable and sophisticated, it becomes ever more important for clients to understand how to use them well. Marcia's ebook is a wonderfully valuable resource in advancing that understanding.
