I've worn a variety of hats, many simultaneously, including: Humane Society cruelty investigator, movie theatre manager, bookstore events coordinator, administrative assistant, home school mom, horseback riding instructor, pet boarding kennel owner, pet sitter, office manager for hubby, Virtual Assistant, and owner of Works of Wonder Virtual Assistance.
I'm a transplanted Canuck; I was raised in the Bahamas and have lived my adult life in Ocala, Florida. I've been married for 21 years to my best friend. Our daughter is the greatest gift of my life.
Additional Questions Answered By Laura
1. What's your position at AssistU? Describe what you do. What do you love most about it?
As the Admissions Director for AssistU I am part of an awesome admissions team. We educate and empower potential students about virtual assistance and becoming business owners. My duties include explaining the highlights of our Virtual Training Program, and deducing if AU is the ideal training program for a potential VA. I love talking with applicants during their interview; their enthusiasm and passion are inspiring. For me, connection is everything. ;-)
2. How has AssistU/being a VA changed your life?
I have grown personally by implementing and embracing the principles taught in the VTP. I am more emotionally and relationally mature and confident. I have always been positive and enthusiastic, but now I've added passion and authenticity to the mix! I have been accepted into a community of like-minded souls and feel as though I have come home. I am living a life I love, and making a difference in the world!
3. What do you consider to be the most important value of AssistU?
Our dynamic virtual community is the heart of AssistU. Because our VAs practice the principals taught in the VTP, our community is a place of abundance and non-competition. We embrace each new student as a member of our family! The support, knowledge, connections, and experience gained within our community are priceless.
4. What's the most important thing that being a VA has taught you?
To believe in myself, and my dreams.
5. You've owned your own VA business for some time now. Why did you decide to become a VA? Was there a particular moment or life circumstance that lit the entrepreneurial path for you?
I have been a business owner and managed my husband's business for six years. I made the decision years ago that I would never be an employee again. After turning 40 and feeling happy but unchallenged, I listened to Cheryl Richardson's Finding Your Passion tapes. I checked out AssistU to see what Stacy had accomplished by finding her passion, and in doing so inadvertently found mine. My husband and I had been seeking a business that would be mobile so we could live aboard and travel on our houseboat. I asked the question; the Universe offered me a treasure in the form of AssistU.
6. What one thing you would want people to know about being a VA (or business owner)?
You are on the right path, if: the idea of being of service and being a business owner lights you up inside, and if you are passionate about virtual assistance.
