AssistU is proud to put Kathy Goldman in the spotlight!
Good Day to You! It truly is a good day!
My name is Kathy Goldman. I completed the Virtual Training Program with AssistU back in early 2000 and have been going gang-busters ever since. Before I became a VA, I provided secretarial services from my home on an "out-source" basis. One night I attended a networking function and ran into a Virtual Business Coach. We talked about what each other does and she asked me if I had ever heard of Virtual Assistants. I had not. So, long story short, I did my homework. I fell in love with the concept and through detailed research, I landed at AssistU. I had a wonderful trainer for the Virtual Training Program and the next thing you know, here I am!
When I first started as a VA, I provided assistance to a variety of clients in different industries. While that was fun, it felt like a shotgun approach to me. I was learning so many businesses and industries it seemed like I never really focused on what I could do for my clients. So I decided to niche. I have about 7 years of Real Estate experience from my corporate life and decided to apply those skills to supporting my clients. (although the virtual real estate industry brings on a whole new realm of challenges!!). I am pleased to have 4 Real Estate clients in: Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wyoming! I spend a great deal of time doing research on the industry. I try to find out what tools agents are using, different MLS systems and their use, maximizing website content to reach and retain potential clients, etc. There is sooo much to learn and it has been a joy to work with my clients.
I became a VA because, like many other VAs, my family comes first. I have two wonderful boys (Arick is 9 and Aaron is 8). They are the center of my world along with my husband and two cats! When I became a mom I really thought I could go back to corporate America. Well, one look into the beautiful brown eyes of my first son and I knew that was an impossibility. I arrange my schedule, for the most part, around the boy's school schedule. They are home by 3 p.m. and I try to end my day shortly after so we can concentrate on homework. When they are off for holidays, we try to spend one or two days doing something away from home. The freedom of arranging my own schedule is incredible!
I also teach at the boy's school. We have a small parochial school with very limited funding. So every Friday morning, I co-teach Microsoft products at the school for 4th - 8th grade. Next year I will be teaching keyboarding to the students in 3rd - 8th grade. It is a blessing to have a schedule and the knowledge to contribute this much to, not only my son's education, but the education of their classmates as well.
My philosophy of life, more and more every day, is that life is too short to spend time doing things you don't like. In my life, I couldn't be happier!
